Each month, EquipmentWatch publishes an article the Top Four Models, which takes one model from each of the four channels (Construction, Lift, Agriculture, & Commercial Trucks) and analyzes their month over month price, age, and volume trends. This Model Spotlight article focuses on one of those four models and breaks down the numbers across the four main features available on the EquipmentWatch website: Costs, Rental, Specs, and Values. Each of these features provides a detailed glimpse into the different facets of heavy equipment data. Whether owning, renting, buying, selling, maintaining, or financing heavy equipment, these articles shed light on the used heavy equipment market. This month it focuses on the subtype of Telescoping Boom Rough Terrain Lift Trucks (telehandlers), which use their operating weight in Metric Tons to determine the size class.

Retail Rental

The Retail Rental graph pictured here displays the average national rental rate, by quarter, over the past two years for the size class in which the Sky Trak 10054 is (4.5 – 4.9 MTons). As you can see on the graph, the area between the two dotted lines is the most representative of the average national rental rate for this size class. As of Q1 of 2017, the average weekly rental rate is $1,570. We saw a large variance from Q3 of 2015 through Q1 of 2016, but over the past six quarters it has remained relatively even. Equipment Values & Market Data

The Values & Market Data graph displays the Fair Market Value (FMV) and the Forced Liquidation Value (FLV) for telescoping boom rough terrain lift trucks in the size class of 4.5 – 4.9 MTons that are in “Good” condition on the national level. FMV is the value resale markets and FLV is the value in auction markets. As you can see on the graph, the FMV and FLV have remained basically even over the past six months. The current FMV of this 2017 telescoping boom rough terrain lift truck is $117,411 and the FLV is $76,317. If you are an EquipmentWatch subscriber, you can adjust the value by changing the condition, location, meter reads, and year.

Ownership & Operating Costs

This cost table displays all of the relative data that can be used to determine the costs of owning and operating the piece of equipment. The average annual use hours for a telescoping boom rough terrain lift truck in the size class of 4.5 – 4.9 MTons is 1,585. The ownership costs include depreciation, cost of facilities capital (CFC), overhead, overhaul labor, and overhaul parts. The operating costs include field labor, field parts, ground engaging components cost (GEC), tire costs, electrical/fuel, and lube. This adds up to equal $91,661 per year in ownership and operating costs for this type of telescoping boom rough terrain lift truck.
